This first part is one of the most important ones from an architectural point of view. In it, you can find historic shops like Loewe, grassy or the Sanz jewellery (still keeping alive the memory in which Gran Vía was a synonym of elegance and distinction) or more recent openings like international brands such as Adidas or New Balance.

Red de San Luis is the name of the ensemble of Montera, Fuencarral and Hortaleza streets, which cut through Gran Vía at this point. This is where the central section starts, and it’s the most crowded part of the street. Here you will find some of the most important shops that nowadays rest in what used to be cinemas or commercial galleries that wanted to compete against the ones in Paris.

 

H&M (Gran Vía 37), in what used to be the old Cine Avenida, Zara (number 34) or the impressive Primark (number 32) stand out.

Just in front of the Callao square, you will discover our SmartRental Centric apartments, in the number 42.

From the Capitol building, and its famous Schweppes lighted sign, the last part of Gran Vía starts. From here to Plaza de España, you can shop in many souvenir shops, or other important brand shops like Benetton (number 41), Lacoste (number 51) or Carmina (number 58).

One of the biggest theatres of our country, and a great example of the art deco architecture of the early 20th Century, now shines again completely remodelled to host important musical productions.

Important titles of the musical genre such as “My Fair Lady”, “Cats”, “The Producers”, “Beauty and the Beast”, “Chicago” or “The Bodyguard” have been enjoyed by thousands of spectators. 

With a capacity of 950 seats, it gives its public the opportunity to enjoy great shows of musical theatre, concerts, dance, ballet, flamenco or comedy.

First opened in 1949, it specialised in musical shows. Nowadays the Lope de Vega Theatre is a referent of the musical theatre in Gran Vía, the Spanish Broadway. Amazing shows such as The Beauty and the Beast, The Phantom of the Opera, Mamma Mia!, Jesus Christ Superstar or Les Miserables have been portrayed in this theatre.

In 2011 it was remodelled to host the premiere of the Lion King musical, still enjoyed by thousands of spectators every year.

Also known as the Capitol building, it’s one of the most important constructions of the third section of the street. Located just in front of our Gran Vía Capital apartments, the Capitol building was made as a multipurpose construction, being at the time of its opening, offices, cafés and the Capitol cinema.

To the northeast of the Sabatini Gardens you will find Plaza de España, flanked by the first skyscrapers that were built in Madrid. It connects Gran Vía and Princesa streets. 

However, even with the amazing architecture surrounding this plaza, the main popular attraction rests in its centre: the Monument to Cervantes, author of the famous story of Don Quixote, and his faithful squire, Sancho Panza.

In 2017 a plan voted by the citizens to remodel the plaza was approved, and will continue the recent changes made to the historic Gran Vía.

A real Egyptian temple, brought stone by stone from its original location in Debod, and reconstructed here during the 70’s. The small temple was a gift from Egypt’s government to thank Spain for the help in saving the Nubian temples from being drowned because of the Aswan Dam. Originally it was built by the Nile bank and is over 2,200 years old.

It reproduces the interior of the Torres Bermejas in the Alhambra of Granada, with arabesque walls, tiles and wooden coffered ceilings. The famous Camarón performed here during 12 years, where he met Paco de Lucía.

Located at 56 metres above Calle Alcalá, during some time it was closed partially to be used as a solarium. Nowadays, it has one of the best and most impressive views to the city of Madrid, and offers its visitors a unique view of the urban landscape.
